A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1 (NIV)
Here is an exercise to practice today. If you encounter a situation today that causes you to feel rage or anger. Immediately ask God to help you, then with patience talk to the person who has wronged you. Allow them to see the grace given to you by God. I promise if you will take this challenge, you will see that Proverbs 15:1 works in 2 ways. Not only will it turn away the other person's anger but it will also turn away yours. I am a witness of this. The maintenance man came in to repair a leaking faucet in my bathtub and he left without turning off the water.
He left it running and he accidentally flooded my bedroom, my bathroom and both of my closets. My furniture had to be moved out of my bedroom and I had to move into my granddaughter's bedroom. Honestly, I was enraged but I showed him grace. I even gave him a hug to encourage him.The rage that I felt dissolved. God is so faithful. His word never returns to Him void. It accomplishes everything that He intends for it to do. Remember you can only know these truths by studying His word. Also take advantage of the privilege that He has given to us in prayer.
Speak when you are angry, and you will make the best speech you’ll ever regret.~ Lawrence J. Peter
